At Tooth & Co., we believe an extraction should be about more than simply removing a tooth.
When a tooth has to come out, we have four goals: keep trauma to a minimum, clean the extraction site thoroughly, preserve healthy bone and tissue whenever we can, and support your body's natural healing process.
Our extraction protocol can include Piezosurgery, the Solea CO₂ laser, ozone therapy, and Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF). Each one plays a specific role, and together they give the extraction site the attention it deserves.

We always look at saving a tooth first. Sometimes, though, removing it is the healthier choice for the rest of your mouth. Dr. Williams may recommend an extraction when a tooth:
Is a tooth causing you pain right now? Visit our emergency dentistry page or call us so we can see you as soon as possible.
Preserving the surrounding bone and tissue starts with how the tooth is removed.
We use Piezosurgery, an ultrasonic surgical technology that lets us work precisely around the tooth and bone. Its vibrations are designed to cut hard tissue while staying gentle on the soft tissue next to it. That precision lets us take a more conservative approach and keep healthy surrounding structures intact whenever possible.
This matters most when we're thinking about the long-term health of the area or planning for a future dental implant. The bone we keep today is the foundation we build on later.

For us, the procedure doesn't end once the tooth is out.
After an extraction, we carefully evaluate the socket and debride it, removing any residual tissue and debris left behind. When there has been an infection, this step gets even more of our attention.
We can use our Solea CO₂ laser as part of our debridement protocol. It lets us precisely treat the extraction site and address residual soft tissue within the socket.
We can also use ozone therapy as an extra step to cleanse the surgical site before moving into the healing phase of the procedure.
Our philosophy is simple: don't just remove the tooth. Carefully address the site it leaves behind.
Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is one of the most important parts of our extraction protocol.
We make PRF right here in our office from a small sample of your own blood. The sample goes into a centrifuge, which spins it to create a concentrated fibrin matrix. That matrix contains platelets and other components involved in your body's natural healing response.
Once the tooth is out and the socket is thoroughly cleaned, we can place the PRF directly into the extraction site. There, it acts as a natural fibrin scaffold within the socket and supports your body's normal wound-healing process.
Because PRF comes from your own blood, it doesn't need synthetic additives. We love being able to use something from your own body as part of the healing process.

When it's appropriate for the individual patient and procedure, our extraction process may include:
Not every extraction needs every step. Dr. Williams will walk you through which ones make sense for your tooth and why.
We don't see an extraction as pulling a tooth and sending you home. We treat it as a surgical and biologic procedure, where what happens to the extraction site matters.
Preserve what we can.
Remove what shouldn't remain.
Thoroughly clean the site.
Use your own PRF.
Support natural healing.
That's the Tooth & Co. approach to extractions, and it fits the broader holistic dentistry philosophy behind everything we do.

That's completely normal. Most people don't look forward to an extraction, and some have had a rough experience in the past. We'll numb the area thoroughly before we begin and explain each step as we go. If you'd like extra help relaxing, ask us about sedation dentistry.
Some tenderness and mild swelling in the first few days is normal. We'll send you home with written instructions for your specific procedure. In general, it helps to:

You shouldn't feel pain during the procedure. We fully numb the area first, and sedation is available if you're anxious. It's normal to feel some soreness for a few days afterward, and our team will go over how to manage it.
Piezosurgery uses ultrasonic vibrations to cut bone precisely while staying gentle on the surrounding soft tissue. During an extraction, it helps us remove the tooth conservatively and preserve as much healthy bone as possible.
PRF comes from a small sample of your own blood, processed in our office on the day of your procedure. Because it's your own tissue, it doesn't need synthetic additives.
In many cases, yes. Preserving bone during the extraction is one of the reasons we take such a careful approach. If an implant is part of your plan, Dr. Williams will talk you through timing and next steps at your evaluation.
It depends on which tooth it is and your long-term goals. We'll talk through your options, including dental implants and other restorative choices, before your extraction so you can plan ahead.
Every extraction is different. Before recommending treatment, we'll evaluate the tooth, the surrounding bone, any signs of infection, and your long-term restorative goals.
